Hansel and Gretel - Color experiment

There's a color I totally hate.
Brown.
I hate it on clothing and accessories and I hate using it in my illustrations.
But after a little try on my most recent book:

I decided to try some vintage atmospheres and brown is quite important in this choice.

I'm satisfied with the final product :D
a '50's feeling...yay!

"On the borders of a dark forest, far away,
there once lived two little children called Hansel and Gretel."

before the final result though, I've tried a brown sky to experiment a dark moment of the day...and I like it!
So I guess the problem is not brown itself but the colors I use with it.
I like it very much with vibrant colors!
Chocolat is the first inspiration for this book... quite clear ;)
